Q: Hey Taylor!! I really like all your songs. You are such a great singer!! I have a question for you. What is your middle name? (Shelby)
My middle name is Alison, after my aunt.
Q: I was just wondering when our birthday is? (Taira)
December 13, 1989.
Q: Hey Taylor just wondering, how does it make you feel knowing that so many people look up to you and consider you their idol? Especially, how does it make you feel knowing that their are so many girls out their (including myself) that are actually older than you that consider you their idol? (Megan)
That is such an awesome question! Thanks so much. It feels so great to hear that people look up to me... I can't believe I'm that lucky. Things like that just make me so excited, and I don't ever want to lose that. It makes me so happy when I'll meet people in my meet and greet lines that get excited or emotional. It seriously makes my day. Knowing that someone older than I am looks up to me is such a cool feeling. Thank you! I basically just have tried to stay the same person that I was when I started this, and no one knew who I was. It makes me feel just as excited to hear you say that now as it would've back then. Every single person who likes my music or looks up to me is part of the reason I'm here. I'm never going to forget that.
Q: Taylor, First off you're amazing. But I have a question (or two) what was the very first song you wrote? what was it about..and how did you feel after writing it? (Jennifer)
Ha. Thank you!! The first song I ever wrote was called.. Lucky You. It was about this girl who didn't fit in with the people in her town, but she didn't care and lived her life anyway. I guess it might have been a little bit autobiographical! After I wrote my first song, I played it for anyone who would listen.. Then I wrote another one. And another one. Once you find something you love, you can't put it down.
Q: Hey Taylor! I was just wondering...has Brad Paisley played any tricks on you yet? (Brittany)
No! He has yet to strike back. I think he's still planning it, which scares me a little!
Q: How did you come up with the idea to put "secret messages" in your song lyrics...like in "Picture to Burn" the message is "Date Nice Boys"?
I was thinking about what I could do to make my album different, and give people more information than just the lyrics. I wanted there to be some sort of cool reward for the die-hard awesome people who actually paid enough attention to go through and figure out the codes. I thought it would be cool to include people in my songs more. I've never been afraid of including people, or letting them into my life. For example.. Check out the code for "Should've Said No".. You'll find the name of the guy who should've, well, said no.
Q: Hello Taylor! I was just wondering...did you ever join chorus in school? (Brittany)
I was in chorus through 8th grade. By the time I was a freshmen in high school, I had a full time job as a songwriter for Sony. I would write every single day after school, and that knocked out any extra-curricular activities I might have done otherwise. I never could pay attention in Chorus class, unless I had a solo or something.. I would daydream the most in that class.
Q: Taylor, Where can I get your cute cowboy boots?! I love them and want a pair like them! (Danielle)
I get my cowboy boots from Liberty Boots, that's my favorite boot company. I also have a pair from BCBG that I wear alot. I'm glad you like my boots!
Q: What song do you think will be your next single? And when? (Jessica)
I think the next single will be Our Song, because it's selling the most behind Teardrops and Tim McGraw on iTunes. That's always a good way to see what songs people like. We'll put it out in early August. I'm glad that song's going to be a single because I wrote it by myself. And I can't WAIT to shoot that video.
Q: Are you nervous when you are singing at concerts? (Megan & Steve)
No, I'm not. I used to get nervous when I was a little kid, but that wears away with time. I've always said that stage fright is something that you can't just wake up and not have.. And you can't get it to go away by reading a manual on how not to have it. It just comes with going out and playing shows over and over, until you don't get even a slight bit nervous anymore. It all comes with time, I guess.
Q: Who is singing with you on your song Cold As You? (Amy)
That's my producer, Nathan Chapman. He sings backup vocals on all of my songs, but it's really prominent on that song. I love the way he sings, and I'm so glad to have him producing my music.
Q: Hi, Taylor I just think you are so beautiful and have a wonderful voice and I was wondering if you had a chance to do a Duet with someone who would it be? (Tina)
Hmmm.. It would probably be Kenny Chesney or John Mayer. Or Justin Timberlake. Ok, sorry, now I'm just saying people I think are hot. Sorry about that..... ha.
Q: I was wondering do you have a best friend and do you take her places with you or are you allowed to? (Chelsea)
I do! My best friend is Abigail Anderson and she lives in the same town I do. We've been best friends for about four years now, ever since I moved to Tennessee. It really seems like we've been through everything together, and I hang out with her every time I'm home. She might start coming out on the road with me this summer, but it's tough with both of our schedules. We're so alike, but then again we can be COMPLETE opposites, and that's what I love about her. We both have extremely big hair and get mistaken for each other all the time. Ha! She's the first person I play my new songs for, because she knows all my stories. It's great to have a best friend.
Q: Hey Taylor are you going to make your own perfume anytime soon? (Mary)
I don't know! I'd love to start branching out into stuff like that at some point, but right now I'm very focused on perfecting everything I'm doing with my music. I'd rather focus on making this next album even better than the first, and my stage performance-- than focus on making a perfume right now. But you never know!
Q: Do you have a fan club started yet? (Angela)
I don't have a fan club at the moment, but I think it'll be coming in the near future. I've gotten such amazing support from you guys, and I'd love to be able to give you something back and offer some cool exclusives. I already have so many ideas about new things to do with this fan club that no one else is doing. Can't wait to get it up and running-- just keep coming back to this site for updates!
Q:Hey Taylor, do you have any brothers or sisters? (Jamie)
I have a younger brother who's 15. He's awesome, and so supportive. We're complete opposites-- he's good at sports and all the things I'm awful at. And he has no interest in music. He comes out on the road with us every once in a while, it's always good to see him.
Q: I was just wondering, who is the girl who kisses "the guy" at the end of the video Teardrops on My Guitar? (Emily)
Her name is Tucker, and I picked her to be in the video from her bio. Trey Fanjoy (the video director) gave me a stack of girls' pictures to choose from, and we picked Tucker right away. We were looking for someone who was completely opposite from me in every way. I think what I like about Tucker in this video is that you can't hate her. She looks sweet, and she has an endearing smile. That's what makes it a heartbreaking ending. It would be easier to hate the other girl, but you can't because she seems so nice. I love the conflict of that.
Q; When you say that you went to Hendersonville High School, was that in NC or TN? (Lacey)
Tennessee.
Q: I was trying to think of something you have not heard or been asked before so i thought of a couple of things. This is kind of silly but do you like sushi? And do you exercise like running, biking or going to a gym? (Alan)
Ha! I've been trying so hard to like sushi.. It's trendy. I'm trying, but it's not going so well so far. I love Japanese food, but I'm not into sushi so far.. yet. And I run when I can-- I'm one of those people who will be really healthy and exercise for about 2 weeks, and then just stop and be lazy for a while. I'm not very consistent when it comes to exercise, but I'm not really hung up on it.
Q: Hey Taylor! I was wondering if the names you use in your songs (like Drew and Cory) are the names of real people that you had those experiences with. And if they are then have they tried to contact you in any way? (Sarah)
Yes! Every name in every song of mine is the actual name of the person I wrote the song about..Yes, both have tried to contact me. In some cases, writing songs about people is a great way to help you get over them. Ha.
Q: Do you keep in touch with anyone from school now? Do you ever make friends with people on the road that you keep in touch with? (Chrstina)
I keep in touch with some of the people from school, but it's a little like you're "out of sight, out of mind". I'm still close with all of the people who I was really close with back then. And yes, I've met girls in my meet and greet lines who I consider friends. I've never felt like I was too cool to be friends with someone who considers themself to be "one of my fans". If I can get along with someone, it doesn't matter the circumstances under which we met. I'm pretty laid back about that kind of thing, and I love making friends with people.
Q: I was wondering what your favorite color is and what your favorite sport is? (Kayla)
My favorite color is white and my favorite sport to watch is probably hockey.. It's exciting. But I'm going to be honest, I'm not much of a sports fan. But I can learn!
Q: What are the names of your band members? (Sydney)
My band consists of.... Grant Mickelson on lead guitar, Emily Poe on fiddle, Geoff Sprung on bass, Al Wilson on drums, and Ben Clarke on banjo/mandolin/piano. I love them all SO much.. They're amazing players and some of my closest friends.
Q: I wanted to know how you got the ideas for your songs? (Alexandra)
People. I get inspired by people so much. That's why I never hesitate to mention names in my songs. In my opinion, that keeps the songs personal and real. I'd love it if people looked back on my music ten years from now and came to the conclusion that it was honest and real.
Q: Did you write Teardrops on my Guitar on guitar or piano? (Karlie)
I wrote "Teardrops" on guitar.. I wrote "Tim McGraw" on piano though. For me I hear a melody in my head and it can go either way.. When I was writing "Teardrops On My Guitar", I was so caught up in the idea that I wanted to write it fast. So I just pulled out my guitar and started writing as fast as I could about this guy I knew named Drew..
Q: Do you ever get tired of traveling? (Ashley)
NO. I love traveling. I think it's so much fun, and I think that's probably because my mom raised me to love traveling. I love being able to say that I've been so many places. I will admit that I do get tired of airports. Airports somehow just wear me out and make me feel tired. That's why I'm thankful to have a tour bus. Ha.
Q: When you go to school is it an actual high school? (Alli)
I've been home schooled for my whole junior year. I was in regular high school all the way through my sophomore year. I went to Hendersonville High School. I do all of my studying and reports and tests on the road most of the time. I don't really miss high school too much to be honest, although I do miss the people. I love being on the road so much. And plus, it's much less drama. haha.
Q: I love the song teardrops on my guitar and I love that green dress. I am getting married next year and wanted my wedding dress to look like that but in ivory can you tell me the designer or where you got it? (Michelle)
Thanks! I'm so glad you like that dress! That dress was custom made for the video by a designer named Sandi Spika. She's actually designing my ACM Awards red carpet dress too, so make sure and watch for it! I'm not sure if she was planning on making more of the dress from the video, but you might want to contact Big Machine Records to ask. BTW, best wishes on your wedding, I'm sure you'll make a beautiful bride!!
Q: When is your new cd coming out? (Catherine)
We're about to start the recording process for the new album, and I've got all the songs written.. Now it's just time to narrow it down to 10 or 11 to put on a new album. It should be out in 2008, and I can guarantee-- it WILL trump the first one. Can't wait for you to hear it!
Q: Whats your favorite part about being a singer/songwriter? (Ashley)
My favorite thing about being a singer/songwriter is that you have control of what music you put out. You get to control the messages you put out about yourself, and you generally get to be more true to yourself. It's a lot easier to show people who you really are when you're singing songs that came directly from YOUR thoughts.. And its so cool to look down into a crowd of people and see them singing the lyrics to songs you wrote.. That's an awesome feeling.
Q: I heard you also know how to play the accordion, is that true? (Megan)
Taylor - No, I play guitar and piano.. I actually wrote Tim McGraw on piano. Haha. But no, I don't play accordion.
Q: I was just wondering where you get a lot of your clothes because every time I see you, you always look so comfy but so pretty...you definitely have a distinct style and I love it! (Elizabeth)
Taylor - That is so sweet! Thank you so much for saying that. Well, my style is basically just dresses and cowboy boots. I like to wear dresses all the time.. I think they're comfortable. I get my clothes anywhere I see something cute. I don't get to shop a lot, but when I do, it's one of my favorite things to do. I like BCBG alot, but I'll pick up cute clothes anywhere. I like Forever 21, because it's really inexpensive, but you'd never be able to tell.
Q: Thank you for being the person that you are. saw your interview with Lorianne Crook and you made a comment about your decision making process and what you think about. You stated that you think about the 6 yr old girl on the front row and then you think about the mom. I have 2 daughters...one is 11 and the other is 3. I am thankful that you are a positive role model for younger girls. Keep up the good work. We love you. God Bless. (Stacey, Ashton and Morgan)
Taylor - That is so sweet!! Thank you so much for saying that. I've been so blessed to have this kind of luck, and this kind of success. I'm so grateful to be in this position, and I wouldn't do anything to let it slip away. When you put music out there, you automatically become some form of role model. Parents trust you to make a good example for their kids. There's something so cool about that.
Q: Hey, Taylor! You said that you have naturally curly hair, so do I. I was just wondering what products you put in it and what you do to keep down frizz? I am always trying products and never find ones I like. Just curious. Thanks! (Tori)
Taylor - I don't use a lot of product in my hair, because it seems to weigh it down. I like my curls to be crazy and light. So sometimes I spray shine spray in my hair, (whatever hair product smells cool.. haha). During the summer, it gets alot bigger because of the humidity.. But that just makes it more fun to toss around on stage. haha.
Q: Hey! Please tell me your gonna release Picture To Burn as a single!?!?! (Laura)
Taylor - Haha. I'm so glad you like that song! I'm pretty sure it's going to be a single, judging by the reactions like that one! I love that song, and I'd love to release it.
Q: I am in love with the tattoo on your foot, is it real? I have even looked into getting the same one! (Kayla)
Taylor - Here's the deal with the tattoo.. It's not real, it's henna. BUT my entire record label and organization and band and everything.. they've all vowed that if my album goes double platinum, we'll all get tattoos like that on our left feet. I know it's a really huge number, but if we get there with this album, I want to do something to commemorate it. haha.
Q: You are beautiful...PROM?? (Neil)
Taylor - That's so sweet!! Man, I had such a hard time trying to get a prom date last year (2 weeks before, I still didn't have one).. and it's just my luck that this year when I'm on tour every Friday and Saturday night, someone asks me to Prom.. Go figure. I'd love to, but my schedule is crazy. Thanks for asking though!
Q: I have your songs and i got your cd for my sisters and we like them a lot. If you ever have a concert in the northwest like Seattle or the Gorge i would love to go, but what I really wanted to ask you, is if you are going to go to college? (Michael)
Taylor - Well, thank you so much for having my cd! And thank you for liking it. About college, I don't see myself going at this moment. I'd love to continue my education as far as possible, but if that intereferes with my career, I don't see the point. College is such a cool part of growing up, and it's supposed to help you figure out what you want to do in life. I found that out when I was 10. I was lucky enough to find success with this, and I just can't see myself walking away.
Q: So what is your dating life like seeing how you always seem to be on the road? I mean thats something that you really dont have much time for or is it? (Brian)
Taylor - I just don't seem to have time.. I guess I could make time if I really wanted to, but for me-- This is where I want my head. I want to be thinking about my career and about the next show I have.. I guess I am just scared of getting distracted from what I've wanted my entire life. I'm 17, so I figure I've got all the time in the world for guys down the road.
Q - "How tall are you? We hope we did not offend you by asking." (from Maegan and Ashley)
Taylor - I am 5' 11'' and btw, it never offends me when people come up to meet me and say "Wow, you're taller than I thought you'd be!" I don't mind being tall, the view is great from up here.
Q - I think that it would be a really good idea if you came and performed at Raleigh North Carolinas State Fair in October.
Taylor - Hey, I'll talk to my booking agent about that fair, I'll be on tour with Brad Paisley this summer, so things are pretty hectic.. If I can't make it to the fair, you should come see me at a Paisley show!
Q - Are you returning to pgh,pa anytime soon?
Taylor - I'm actually going to be doing a show in Pittsburgh, PA April 15th at the Pepsi Roadhouse. I'd love to see you there!
Q - Im from Canada...and wondering when you are going to perform in our great country???
Taylor - I'll be playing Toronto with George Strait in the next few weeks! You should come out and see us, I'd love to meet you!
Q - will there be any concerts in Sweden?
Taylor - Right now I'm just touring the US, but I have serious plans to tour Europe in the next couple of years, I'll keep you posted.
Q - Are you coming to Houston for any concerts?
Taylor - I will be in Houston this summer with Kenny Chesney, we'll be there two nights in a row! You should come!!
Q - I don't see any concerts in La?
Taylor - I'll be in Louisiana with Brad Paisley this summer, you should come out to a show.
Basically, anytime I'm going to be somewhere it will appear on my calendar. You can check back often since we are adding dates almost daily. There is a button on the home page that says "When Am I Coming To Your Town?" and if you click it on either this site or my myspace site you'Il know exactly where I'm going to be. I hope I'll get to see you at a show real soon!!
Q - I was wondering if your hair is naturally curly b/c I have naturally curly hair, and I couldn't straighten it if I could!
Taylor - YES. I have naturally curly, naturally HUGE hair. haha. I used to try and straighten it, but it's a battle. I'd much rather not mess with it and wear my hair the way it is naturally.
Q - I was just wondering where you got the dress for your Teardrops On My Guitar video?
Taylor - That dress was actually specially made for me by my amazing stylist, Sandi Spika-Borchetta. She made the majority of Reba McEntire's dresses back in the day and she's also made dresses for Trisha Yearwood. She's unbelievable, I'm so glad you like that dress!
Q - I love your song Teardrops On My Guitar but did that really happen? Lillie
Taylor - OH yes. It actually happened.. I wrote the song about a guy who sat next to me in class, and I had the BIGGEST crush on him. And he was oblivious. He had no idea. And everyday he would tell me all about his girlfriend, and how perfect she was... I never told him the truth, but I did write a song with his name in it. ha.. Well.. Guess the secret's out now.
Q - So do you have a boyfriend at this time? Stephen
Taylor -No, I don't have a boyfriend. I haven't dated in a over a year, I just don't have time! I'm in a different place every day, and this career is enough for me right now. I'm in my independent stage. ha.
Q - Do you write all of your own songs? Anna
Taylor- I do, actually. I've written every song on my album.
Q - Where did you get your skull boots? I love them! Megan
Taylor - Thank you SO much! I got my skull boots at Boot Star in L.A.. They're Liberty Boots.
Q - I love your music and everything but I feel bad because you are always surrounded by people trying to talk to you that you don't even know. Nicole
Taylor - Aww, you're sweet. I appreciate your concern, but I love people. If I didn't genuinely love people, I wouldn't be able to do this without going crazy. My personality is just all about talking to people. I could talk to a wall. haha. I do meet and greets every night after every show, because I actually like meeting people. I feel like, if y'all are kind enough to invest your time and energy into my music.. I ought to at least say thank you. Thanks for saying you like my music!
Q - Can you give me some tips that I would need if I become a singer? Thanks! Mikaela
Taylor- Well, I started trying to do this when I was about ten. Every single week, I would comb through the newspaper or phonebook trying to find places I could sing at one the weekends. And I knew I wouldn't get discovered in a karaoke bar in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.. That's not why I did it. I did it for practice. I did it to get better, so that when I did go to Nashville, I'd be a seasoned performer. So much of the valuable things I did in the beginning stages took place behind the scenes.. The hours I spent practicing guitar.. All of the songwriting.. There's no use walking into a record label to "get your big break" if you're not practiced enough to get it.
